Wichita’s Ultimate Live Theatre Guide
Live Theatre Is Back and Better Than Ever
Sure, movies and television are a great way to relax and unwind after a long day, but there’s something that can only be experienced through live theatre. Whether you’re an avid theatre-goer or are just looking for something fun to do with friends, Wichita’s live theatre scene is sure to have something you will enjoy! At Campus Wichita, we help young interns explore and experience this awesome city we call home, which is why we have compiled Wichita’s ultimate live theatre guide. Learn more below!
Crown Uptown Theatre
If you’re interested in an intimate performance of a Broadway-style show, The Crown Uptown Theatre is the perfect live theatre venue for you! Designed by the Boller Brothers and built by George Siedhoff in 1928, it initially operated as a first-run movie venue before undergoing multiple remodels and conversions toward a more Broadway-style dinner theatre. Fully equipped with state-of-the-art sound and lighting instruments, it is perfect for concerts, theatrical productions, dances, and more and has one of the largest performing stages in Wichita. Book your season tickets today, or stop by throughout the year for special live performances of shows like Rent, Calendar Girls, and the iconic Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Century II
Century II Performing Arts and Convention Center is located near the east bank of the Arkansas River in downtown Wichita and was recently listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2020. Each year, Music Theatre Wichita hosts a special summer theatre series at Century II, showcasing everything from classic productions of The Wizard of Oz to sweetly nostalgic and hilarious shows like The Drowsy Chaperone. Make sure to select your seats early because these tickets sell out quickly!
Roxy’s Downtown
Do you love the spirit of Cabaret? Roxy’s Downtown has a long relationship with the downtown scene of Wichita and offers patrons a comfortable and romantic, slightly nostalgic, cabaret-inspired atmosphere for live theatre. Stop by for some refreshing cocktails and enjoy one of Roxy’s seasonal shows for a weekend out on the town!
Mosley Street Melodrama
If you struggle sitting quietly for hours at a time, check out Mosley Street Melodrama, Wichita’s only audience participation dinner theatre! Each show features an audience-interactive comedy in the first act, followed by a musical comedy after intermission. This year’s season is already underway, with a variety of productions written by Carol Hughes, Scott Noah, Molly Tully, Ryan Schafer, and Tom Frye. We hope to see you there!
