Visiting Wichita’s Finest Art and History Museums

With So Much To Look at, You’ll Want To Come Back

It’s no surprise that Wichita is the cultural hub of the Midwest, specifically when it comes to art and history! With vibrant city murals and unique public art installments, you’re sure to experience a sense of heightened creativity when roaming the streets of downtown. At Campus Wichita, we help young interns explore and experience the unique culture Wichita has to offer, which is why we are visiting the finest art and history museums in the area. Check them out below!

The Exploration Place

With exhibits carefully curated for visitors of all ages, you don’t have to be a science lover to appreciate all the Exploration Place has to offer! Located on the west side of the Arkansas River, the Exploration Place features 12 dynamic exhibit galleries with interactive elements for everyone to enjoy. Explore one of their popular traveling exhibits, or catch a show at the Digital Dome Theater and Planetarium, the largest dome theater in the state of Kansas. This 60-foot screen with a 360-degree view is something you will not want to miss!

Museum of World Treasures

Calling all history buffs! Take a trip back in time with a visit to the Museum of World Treasures. Delve into dinosaurs, Ancient Egyptians, past presidents, and more, exploring everything from shrunken heads to an extensive World War II collection. If you’re looking for something more interactive, book a group scavenger hunt and fully immerse yourself in the museum’s rich look at history!

Wichita Art Museum

The Wichita Art Museum is home to over 10,000 selected works of American art, making the prized permanent collection nationally recognized for its distinction in emphasizing American art. With ever-changing events and exhibits, you’ll want to visit this Wichita landmark frequently to absorb everything it has to offer. May we suggest stopping by the Muse Cafe for some of their popular red pepper hummus and pan-seared salmon during your next visit?

Old Cowtown Museum

Located next to the Arkansas River in central Wichita, the Old Cowtown Museum is a living history museum that allows you to immerse yourself in the sights and smells of a typical 1865 Midwestern cattle town. Try out an ice-cold saloon sarsaparilla, but be prepared to take cover if gunfire erupts outside in the streets! In addition to all the fun, Old Cowtown’s unique programming also chronicles Wichita’s historical transformation from a frontier settlement to an agricultural and manufacturing area.
